Why don’t you mobilize your street/and neighbourhood and go from door to door. Put on some stockings j/k :)

  • MaestroRage says:

should have finished reading your sentence before I bought these red stockings…

I hope we can share marketing strategies after all this is done. I’m simply in awe at your steady and yet deadly rise in votes.

  • Singh says:

    Hey !

Can I upload a song for this competition ?

    or is it too late?

  • Silence says:

I just wanted to mention that if you enter the competition you are placing your music as an object to get you something, its not just you creating a track in order to express your creativity. That said, the very aim of a competition is to win, whether it be votes from the AG community who may be clicking on voters without listening could just as well have outside AG members listening to the tracks then voting. There is no way to tell, but if you want to see who the better musician is it is those that have put in such effort to build up a network of listeners to support their cause. That aspect should not be ignored, this is not a blank canvas, this is an artists life ambition and those who hold that in mind would have been building up there own network from way before this competition and if their supports come to their aide then pity the fools who shun them who havent put in half as much effort thinking they can get by just working on music alone without getting themselves out there.
Stop moaning, you enter a competition there will be losers, doesnt mean you have to adopt a losers mentality cos I am sure those complaining if they were 1st or eventually win, all will be forgotten by them, just reading the comments that much is obvious…

    Good luck to all, seeya

  • MaestroRage says:

Sjev, it seems you have a very interesting career history D:! While researching my competitors *I like to try and know them a bit better*, I stumbled through several pages about you. Some of them didn’t match up, like that one guy who has your exact name, but was a lead designer and software architect over at Microsoft in the 70’s…

you didn’t work for Microsoft did you?

Also I will have to purchase some of your albums, there are some interesting ones hanging about.

  • Cube3 says:

    Maestro,

Well no, i haven’t worked at microsoft in the 70’s probably cause you have my name spelled wrong?

About albums, I would be more worried about Quange than me… he’s on the rise , is an active Blogger, knows how to use his network and he’s giving away 20 of his solo CD albums!

  • MaestroRage says:

    http://www.plaxo.com/directory/profile/115964518405/23d4cd07/Sjef/van+Leeuwen

I don’t think I have it spelled wrong. Both around Amsterdam.

In any case you’re plowing through the polls eh!? I’m going to have to get aggressive soon.

  • kingfresh says:

Not to beat a dead horse, but I spent some time throwing that tune together so here goes:

    I took

“The winner will be selected via community poll.”

to mean only community members would vote. You could’ve easily locked it down to only people that were members prior to the competition.

No biggie, although I was pretty excited about possibly winning the MBox2 Pro. My studio set up needs a major overhaul. I just wouldn’t have spent the 2-3 hours composing and recording that song if I’d understood the voting process.

  • vaisnava says:

    Kingfresh,

I think you were not the only person who misunderstood that “The winner will be selected via community poll.” meant the participants of the site. However, the rules now state that anything goes as long as you dont hack the system or beg for votes.

Next time, I truly do hope they are more clear/specific as I think that if people knew they should “mobilize their voting forces” in advance most people would have more than 1-10 votes by now. However, now that the rules are clear, it is interesting to see those 3 go head to head. lol.

  • MaestroRage says:

    ooo. Game on Philly!

  • DavidPesta says:

Here’s an idea how to make the next competition more fair.

    1. Don’t use PollDaddy, create your own system.
    2. Don’t display the name of any artist anywhere throughout the process.
*3. Loosely label the entries “Entry 1″, “Entry 2″ and so on.
    4. Display the entries in random order, with IP address as a seed.
    5. Store seed in a browser cookie to cover cases where dynamic IP is used.
    6. If cookie is cleared, create it again from IP at next visit.
    7. Keep track in your database what songs a visitor listened to. Use this to normalize results and remove very rare cases where dynamic IP is used while cookies are turned off/cleared.

    * Do not attach the labels to the songs, rather label them in the order in which they are displayed to the visitor. Every visitor will have different labels for different songs.

The only disadvantage to this system is that people won’t be able to talk to each other about the songs until after the competition is over since Entry 1, Entry 2, etc will be different for every viewer. But the competition will be fair and cheating and bias will be eliminated.

  • Spy says:

Quange are you running out of IP addresses?

  • MaestroRage says:

    hahahaha!

Quangy where the hell did you spring from!!?!?!?

Things are getting REAL interesting! Joel any word on when the polls officially close? I’d hate for it to close soon :D !

  • Joel says:

We got the poll up about a week later than we intended due to some complications, so it’d make the most sense to close it a week later, too. How’s the 15th with you guys?

  • vaisnava says:

Joel, wow… this whole thing was a mess.

I think you should honor the written date of Oct 8th, even though I obviously did not win. It has already been unfair in how people were confused as to how this whole thing would even be voted for… now your going to change the time that people have been waiting for?

    Yikes…

  • Cube3 says:

    @Joel

Sure why the hell not? I am flexible :)

  • vaisnava says:

@ Cube3, are you serious? Everyone in this contest has been waiting for the 8th of October since they decided to join this competition. It was written in the contest rules. I think if anything AJ is OBLIGATED to end it then, period.

Tell Quange and Maestro that they will have to go steal more votes… I am sure you’ll see them at 400+ by then.

    What a joke.

  • Cube3 says:

    @Vaisnava,

No man i was being Facetious.

    >”So it’d make the most sense”

@Joel, i like the compromise “most” something makes sense or not, it would have made perfect sense, if you had posted the official starting date of the Poll, which was not the case.

We could setup another poll though, to vote for Yes or No on October 15th… LOL

  • MaestroRage says:

    hahaha!

I vote for it. I’m REALLY interested in seeing this play out a little bit longer. Since we launched a week late, I think we should finish a week late.

  • Cube3 says:

    Give Quang that price already.

  • MaestroRage says:

I’m a little curious at Quange’s progress. He skyrocketed to 200+ votes in a few hours, but that vote count has all but stopped. Not a single new one for many hours.

You’ll forgive me Quange when I declare shenanigans.

  • vaisnava says:

    @ Maestro

I flat out do not think it is fair. However, if Joel decides to do this, then all 20 finialists should have a vote on whether or not to extend it.

Looks like Quange should win, unless someone gets a huge BOOST in a few hours.

    @ Joel

You had it in writing to end this thing on the 8th, you gave no indication of when the voting would begin, so that doesn’t matter. At least keep your word, cause thats all we have.

  • Quange says:

I have received comment on my blog that says I fake the vote.
Even Spy here also thought that I steal votes.

Two days ago, when I didn’t do any promotion, I only got about 6 votes. I am sure this 6 votes are very genuine because the voters don’t know me and listen to most of the entries before voting. That time, I was still an underdog. Even Cube3 and Fulinstrume is telling the truth that they like my music.

In the last two days, I have been doing very aggressive promotion. As a result, I am now leading the contest. Then the story staredt to flip. I became a contestant who is accused to steal votes, fake votes etc. I suddenly became the villain.

Apparently, there is so much flaw in this contest. You lose when you don’t promote. When you lead, you are accused.

  • vaisnava says:

    @ Joel

Either let Quange win (if his votes truly are legit)

    or

Throw a dice, a 20 sider and let that decide… it will give those who saw this contest as something completely different an honest chance.

This is my last post, sorry for so many. It will be interesting as to what happens.

  • Quange says:

    @Maestro

I got all those 200+ votes in 60 hours time.
The votes rise steadily every hour. It might slow down a bit when people are asleep here in Asia.

Anyone out there who follow this poll result closely will notice that.
When I started out at 6 votes, you are at 112. Please tell something fair here.

Cube3 follows my promotion strategies. He knows a lot better. Although there are some strategies that I use which I am yet to share, but I think you guys are doing that too.

When this end, I am going to show to the public how I got those votes.

  • MaestroRage says:

    @ Quange.

I realize that promotions can give you a spike in votes Quange. Ask anybody here I got 100ish something first 5 hours I started promoting. But i’m curious as to why it suddenly stopped. I mean surely if you left a post, or even sent an email, people should continue to trickle down and vote here or there.

In any case i’m sure Joel and the staff will catch on if anything fishy was being played out, I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

You must share with me your marketing technique D:!

  • MaestroRage says:

    Sorry for the double Post.

No Quange, those were not spread over 60 hours. I think a few of us can vouche that those 200 votes were all rapidly gained over a much shorter period of time then that.

Then again i’m not going to play the accusation game where I have no means of validating/disproving it. I leave that all for the admins to decide.

  • Quange says:

    @Maestro

The secret is – don’t stop promoting before the contest end.

That’s why you see my votes rise .. and there is not significant spike. Because all spikes added up become a line .. just like the stock market chart in long term.

  • Quange says:

    @Maestro

Sorry for the arguing. It is clear that you never follow my progress all these time. Please ask Cube3. He knows a lot better than you.

  • MaestroRage says:

don’t take offense Quange. I apologize for my rash words, but I am merely voicing my thoughts. Like I said there is nothing I can do to prove or disprove my thoughts so i’m not going to even go there.

Though I must know where you promoted your material?! It is clearly somewhere with a lot of listeners/activity.

  • MaestroRage says:

I just now realize that the green names mean links. I see your post, and I see I was wrong. My sincerest Quange, I know it is not pleasant to be accused, even if indirectly, of cheating.

I hope the contest is open for another week so I can give you a more entertaining fight for the prize!

  • Quange says:

    @maestro

    Thanks for understanding.
This will be a very competitive challenge.. at least to the top promoters

  • Joel says:

@vaisnava: Just throwing the idea out there to the contestants to see if you guys thought it was long enough or not; I suppose we’ll stop the polling here then. As for the comment, “this whole thing has been a mess,” I disagree. It was all good fun for many here, and this kind of polling is, as I’ve mentioned, pretty much the standard way to run a contest. It has run smoothly from beginning to end and none of the rules have been broken by anyone.

Good job to all and thanks for your show of sportsmanship.

  • Quange says:

    @Joel,

Just need your confirm. Since your last comment, we can’t vote anymore right?
I will stop promoting if voting is officially closed.

  • Joel says:

@Quange: Nah, the poll will automatically close when it hits midnight of the 8th.

  • Quange says:

    @Joel,

When is the midnight of 8th you are referring?
The US? It has passed 12am at LA.

  • Quange says:

I guess is the end of night of 8th in the US.

  • Joel says:

Yes, end of night, rather than start of day. :)

  • Cube3 says:

Well seems that Quange is going to win, congratulations

We sure turned up that heat éh Joel?

  • Cube3 says:

Hopefully someday, time for another Contest :)

  • zakry says:

    Hey Lau,

Wishing you all the best with the Quange’s Entry. MaestroRage’s Entry & Cube3’s Entry r doing quite well too.. I believe the best entry is only for the best ears! Cheers!!

    Zakry

  • Cube3 says:

In Sydney, New South Wales, Australia it is now
Current Time donderdag, october 9th 2008, 04:22:41 EDT

And the poll is still open.

  • Joel says:

@Cube3 – the heat was indeed turned up. ;)

  • Phoon says:

    hi brother quan,

    congratulation to you!!
    i’m always your super fans.

as a malaysian chinese, we always can speak/communicate in, at least 3 languages.
but music has no limit or border line…
your music can be listened by audience throughout the world this time
although it was not a big event.
really still appreciated that audio jungle had provided the chance.

    best regards to all.
