How to Create Post Production SFX Using Reason
Dec 4th in Production, Reason by Simon O’ Reilly
![]()
When working in post production for film and television, gaming and other types of media, sound effects are half the picture. There are many sound effect libraries available on the market these days and although the sounds can be of high quality, getting into the routine of dragging and dropping sounds from libraries can take all the creativity out of the production process.
Flex Time: Using Logic Pro 9’s Flex Modes
Dec 5th in Logic Pro, Production by Joel Falconer
![]()
In a recent tutorial on quantizing audio in Logic Pro 9, we used one of the flex modes so that we could put our audio in time with the new Flex Time feature. But there are several flex modes, and each serves a different purpose — how do you know which one is the right one to use?

How to Create and Organize Your Own Apple Loops
Dec 7th in Logic Pro, Production by Mo Volans

If you use Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro or Final Cut Pro it’s highly likely that you’ll be familiar with Apple loops. These applications come with a pretty massive collection of sounds in this format but it’s much more satisfying to build your own custom loops and have them stored alongside the library sounds.
This tutorial will show you how to turn your raw samples into Apple loops and tag them with the appropriate data so that they show up in your searches. These loops can then be used in any of your project, regardless of their tempo.

How to Protect Your Ears
Dec 10th in Tutorials by Björgvin Benediktsson
![]()
A while ago we asked you readers about what kinds of tutorials you
would like to see next. While I went over the very informative list I
stopped at a reader’s suggestion. This reader kindly told us that we
haven’t been focusing on the most natural thing we audio enthusiasts
use. Namely, our ears. Our ears are the most important aspect of our
music production, without them there wouldn’t be much music would
there? Music to our ears would be a mute point, no pun intended…
A Musician’s Introduction to Copyright
Dec 10th in General by Adrian Try

Copyright is an important topic for every musician that is serious about his work. It is also a dangerous topic to comment on. Firstly, it is a confusing web of legal issues that keeps many lawyers employed – and I am not a lawyer. And secondly, copyright law varies from country to country – though many countries have now standardized. So don’t take this article as legal advice. Hopefully it will offer sensible advice to musicians in most countries. I advise you to do some research of your own, and consider paying someone qualified for some real legal advice.
