Author Interview: MIDNIT3_S3V3N

This week in our series of interviews of AudioJungle authors, we meet…

MIDNIT3_S3V3N (Hagai Satria)

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living?

My name Hagai Satria, from Indonesia. I’m a college student, doing my thesis to finish my education in Information  Technologies.  I’m also a musician, and a freelancer for graphic/web design.

MIDNIT3_S3V3N2. How long have you been composing music and what got you started producing?

I’ve been composing music for about four years, and the first song I composed named ‘the Rock of Ages’.

3. Do you play any instruments? Do you have any formal music training?

I play guitar, keyboard, and bass. Actually I have no formal music training, I just got private piano lesson for a couple months when I was in high school.

My Pedalboard4. Could you describe to us your home studio and the equipment and software you typically use to produce audio?

I do all of my music composition/programming with a PC. I use FruityLoops and Adobe Audition. To make the guitar parts I use my pedalboard guitar effects.

5. Could you tell us a bit about how you typically compose and then produce your audio? Describe your creative process.

When I compose, I first imagine the main melody and each parts for the music. Then based on that, I make the drum, bass, and synth with FuityLoops. After I have the mixdown of the FruityLoops file, I layer it with guitar using Adobe Audition. I further mix and master it with Adobe Audition. Just like that. :)

6. What genre of music do you enjoy producing for and why?

Actually, I enjoy producing any kind of music. But I most enjoy producing rock, funk, and jungle music.  I like them because I just feel so blended with that kind of music.

7. What kind of things inspire you to create music? Do you have any musical influences?

I am inspired by what I feel or listen. My influences are: Queen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Mattias Eklundh, Alicia Keys, Lincoln Brewster, Hillsongs, United, Pillar, Killswitch Engage, and so many more. :)

8. What genres of music do you listen to in your spare time? Do you have any favorite bands or artists?

View / listen to MIDNIT3_S3V3N’s AudioJungle portfolio.

Could be anything – a melody fragment heard while walking around, a phrase which inspires a particular musical mood, TV and film music, music we listen to. I hear a lot of incidental music on TV and want to try and recreate it. We have loads of property renovation programmes on in Britain where hapless couples make a mess of converting terraced houses. Someone bodges the floorboards and as they’re looking into the hole in the floor, there’s a weird distorted Rhodes piano twiddle. I like to see if I can go and do the same thing. (The music, not making a hole in the floor).
