@Tom Howe: While I prefer Logic I require the use of Pro Tools so I haven't use many interfaces that don't let me run Pro Tools LE from home. So without veering out of my own experience, I'd say the Digidesign Mbox Micro will do what you're after, though if you're going the Mbox route you may as well pay the little bit extra for the Mini.

I'm considering some studio monitors (KRK rokit 5s i think) as I'm currently just mixing on some headphones, but I've been reccomended to get an audio interface first, as laptop audio out's won't do the speaker's justice. What do you guys think is the cheapest audio interface that could get you studio quality sound coming out of your laptop? I don't do any mic work so inputs aren't an issue.

Thanks. You guys seem to know your stuff.

A little outside of this price range, but I've been having great success with my NRV10. It'll also daisy chain with my old Firewire 410 to make one monster interface.

Close to this price cap the new M-Audio FastTrak Ultra 8R looks REALLY sweet.

Too many toys...
