Another great software for music notation is NoteFlight. It. is not only easy to use it is free and is web 2.0. It has a great interface that does what you need in a hurry. It is particularly good for music educators as you can share and update files online. Teachers can make a template of a project and send the work to the students for them to complete and then the teacher can go online and create comments right on the manuscript. Made by teachers for music teachers everywhere. Great stuff. Check it out at noteflight.com

spuffler: I hardly see how pointing out that it doesn't run on Windows is not a civil comment. People generally take cross-platform to mean that it works on all major platforms. I don't use Windows and so it doesn't bother me whether it runs on the platform or not, but the article would be incomplete if I didn't point out which of these cross-platform applications do not run on one of the major operating systems.

"Ardour runs on Mac OS X and Linux making it cross-platform only to an extent"

What? If it doesn't support Windows, it isn't worthy of a civil comment??

That program took many hundreds of hours to create, dozens of people were involved, it is not costing users one thin dime, and you're a snot about how it doesn't work on Windows?

i must disagree with ya on audacity mate, i have done a whole mess of stuff with audacity alone, link attached.

presently i use a compiled version that is asio based, and have done 24 tracks at a time with no difficulty,
the worst thing imo is that ya cannot do realtime effects.

the new audacity will even do midi.

here's a link...i am a deaf old guitar player so my mixes may be kinda dodgy, but that's me more than the software.
